The National Commission on Excellence in Education declared: "The educational foundations of our society are being eroded by a rising tide of mediocrity that threatens our very future as a Nation and a people." They warned that if another country had done this to us, we'd view it as an act of war. We did nothing.

Schools began teaching to the test. Art, music, shop class, home economics - eliminated. Children became data points. Creativity died. By 2007, 62% of school districts had cut time from other subjects to focus on reading and math.

Today, in 2026, the crisis has only deepened. 54% of U.S. adults read below 6th grade level. 66% can't perform basic car maintenance. 89% of young adults wish they'd learned practical skills in school. We have failed an entire generation - and the next one is waiting.
